47th SOUTHPORT VICTORIA METHODIST BROWNIES 47TH Southport Victoria Brownies has been established for over 50 years.
Brownies are part of the Guiding Association which covers girls aged 7/10 years. It is an organisation which stemmed from the scouting organisation founded by Lord Baden Powell, to encompass girls.
47th Southport Victoria Brownies hold their Meetings at Victoria Methodist Church on Thursday evenings at 6.15pm to 7.30pm. There are 24 girls in the unit with 3 guiders, a Young Leader.
The Brownies undertake various activities. These include working for various interest Badges:-
Taking part in Community based activities such as the Church Christmas Fair. We have arranged visits by the local police to enable us to take our crime prevention badge; Brownies had the opportunity to have their photo taken with the police car and to use their handcuffs!
We have also had a visit from the fire brigade with their fire engine to take the Fire Safety badge.
One of this years highlight was the visit of Alice and her dog Bella from the Dogs for the Disabled charity, really enjoyable!
We also participate in District events, meeting up with other Brownie Units and undertaking various activities. These often take place at Scarisbrick Hall the campsite or Shirdley Hill owned by the guiding association.
At meetings we cook, undertake craft activities, play games, sing songs, and go on excursions to swimming baths, aquariums, bowling and meals out. We meet up with other local Units and hold meetings together. We have also gone on pack holidays,
The Brownies work in 4 groups of 6 which are called sixes, with one Brownie being a leader of their group known as the sixer. The sixer has a seconder to
20th June Thursday.... Brownie Coffee evening 6.15pm - 7.30pm in church hall in aid of 'hearing dogs'. Entrance 50p to include coffee and biscuits, body shop demonstrations and if you have a ticket a lucky draw'
